My first proper character turnaround, made for a character design class! Nigel is an anthropomorphised slime mold, the largest single-celled organisms on Earth. Slime molds grow by following the typical cell-division process, except instead of splitting into different cells, they stay together, resulting in a massive cell with thousands of nuclei! They're also excellent learners, and can share what they've learned with other slime molds when they fuse together.

The human friend of my slime mold character, Nigel! Tamika was intended to be Nigel's mentor in a sense, as well as the catalyst for their conceptual story and a way to communicate things for the audience in a way that a mute character simply couldn't. The medium for the story would have been an educational kid's show, so this would follow a lot of previous examples like Dora the Explorer, Blue's Clues, and other similar shows.

Some props for Nigel and Tamika! These were meant to help build an idea of what these characters were like, and what items would hold significance to them in some way.

Part of my character design class also included environment design! Each of these environments references real, fictional, and made-up-on-the-spot locations.
